Abington Friends School enjoys a rewarding relationship with Abington Art Center, which sits just to the south of our campus across Meetinghouse Road. Located on 27 green and wooded acres, the Art Center hosts rotating exhibitions of work by contemporary artists, many of whom use the natural landscape both for inspiration and as an integral part of their work.
Our students regularly visit the grounds of Abington Art Center, also known as Alverthorpe Park. . A 5th grade class might spend the morning there reflecting quietly and writing poetry. An 8th grade class may celebrate the end of their challenging Eighth Grade Independent Project with a celebratory day there. A 3rd grade class recently undertook a geocaching project, where they explored the park to find places to hide their geocaches, in tree trunks, behind rocky outcroppings, next to an outdoor sculpture.
We appreciate our connection with
Abington Art Center for the richness it brings to our programming and the broadened horizons it opens up for our students.
